The Viewmaster Foundation from Maastricht – Netherlands, together with Intro in situ; music in context in Maastricht, announces an Open Call for composers and (sound) artists to send in work, to be included in the large-scale video art and sound art exhibition Paraphasing Babel – Video Art and Soundscapes on Language in Public Space. The exhibition will run in the evenings from October 19 to November 18 in public space in Maastricht and Heerlen, the two largest cities of the Southern Netherlands, close to the borders with Belgium and Germany.
The theme of the exhibition is language, (mis)communication and speech confusion. This theme is strongly related to the multilingual Euregion, where Dutch, French and German rub against each other and strongly overlap in several dialects.
27 international video artists and 7 Sound artists will participate in the exhibition. Two sound artworks will be selected through this Open Call. The deadline is September 17th.
If you are a European composer or sound artist and the theme language and communication inspires you to create a short audio piece, or if you already have a piece that complements or represents this theme, then we invite you to send in your work. Intro in situ and the Viewmaster foundation will pay an artist’s fee of 300€ (including taxes) for each of the two nominated entries.
Please send your work to Bart van Dongen (artistic director Intro in situ), together with type of file, title, length and a short text (300 words) about the piece. For more information about the project you may contact Intro in situ. We will gladly send you the project plan and more information about the participating artists.
Paraphrasing Babel is the third exhibition by Viewmaster Foundation. It was preceded by For Real: 28 Utopian Projections in Public Space (2010) and Body Talks: Video art and Cinedans in Public Space (2011).
Intro in situ; music in context is a production house for sound and music, with headquarters in Maastricht (NL). Yearly, Intro in situ makes sound installations and interdisciplinary productions that find their way to national and international stages and festivals.
